Races, One Winner. Racing in South Texas can shrivel-up during the long, sweltering Summer days, so by popular demand RCHQ is moving to an awesome nighttime racing program starting on July the 5th. Not only can you escape the blazin’ sun, but you can also win some serious cash while you’re at it! Introducing the Hot Summer Nights RC Racing Series. A fast guy isn’t just going to show up once or twice and take all the money and the glory. Nope, this time the racers who are not only fast, but also show up consistently, uses strategy, and participate at all levels of our pastime are getting the Exaltation, Recognition, Money, and maybe as my Dad use to say “the satisfaction of a job well done” … scratch that, go for the money!
The Payout
- $500 Check to the Winner
- $300 for 2nd Place
- $200 for 3rd Place
- $100 for 4th Place
- $50 for 5th Place
In additon, All the winners will be immortalized on this website with nude pictures and racing profiles for all their adoring fans to admire, and for their rivals to scorn. And we’re going to have a Kick-Butt Banquet to celebrate the victors when the dust finally clears. *Okay, maybe not nude pictures, we just wanted to make sure you were paying attention before we moved on.
The Points System – 5 Ways to Score
1. Overall Points per Class; 10 for winner, 9 for 2nd, 8 for 3rd, and so on. 1 point for 10th and below
- Can only Score Overall Points in 1 Class per Night
- Points Class must be picked during signup/registration; Can’t be Changed once submitted to RD
- New Class can be selected each Round
2. One Point for Each Heat that you Start
- 2 Qualifiers and 1 Main
- Applies to multiple classes, unless they are combined by RD (to save time)
3. 1 Point for TQ in “Points” class 4. One Point for Each Time you Marshal
- No points for using substitute marshals, you have to do it yourself unless handicapped or physically unable to do so
- Volunteers only accepted when called for by RD and on first-come-first-serve
5. Bring a new first-time Racer with you and Score 1 Point for Every Heat they Run In the event of a tie, the winner will be judged by his/her peers in an anonymous poll based on: sportsmanship, decorum, and racing protocol. *Late Entries and Drop-ins are not timed so they do not score points for that heat.
Scoring Example
Here’s an example of the scoring at work: Say a really handsome racer (like Robbie) shows up and races both 4wd SC and 2wd Buggy. He names 4wd SC as his “Points” class. He runs all three heats in SC, qualifies 3rd, and wins first in the SC. He also runs all 3 heats in 2wd buggy, TQ’s and then finishes 3rd. Finally, he marshals all of his heats, and like the gentleman he is, volunteer marshals for 2 of the Novice classes races. How many points did our hero score? If you answered 24, then you know how to work this deal and have a legit shot at it!
The Classes
- Expert Nitro Buggy
- Sportsman Nitro Buggy
- e-Buggy
- 2wd SC
- 4wd SC
- 2wd 1/10 Buggy
- 4wd 1/10 Buggy
- Truggy
- Novice (all types of cars mixed)
Night Racing Program & Rules
Two Qualifiers; length of mains will be determined by turnout. Our goal is for the program to conclude by 10:00pm Signup Closes promptly at 5:30. If you can’t make it by then, call the store and signup by phone. If you signup late, but still get here before your first qualifier starts, you can drop into your heat and drive the race – this has been changed – We cannot accept late entries, it takes too much time to redo the heats listing and it’s not fair to the other racers who were here on time to have to wait. However you will not be scored. You will still be required to marshal When your race is complete, place your car in the impound area, return house transponder if you’re using one, and head directly onto the track to fulfill your marshaling privileges. Do not return to the pits for any reason. A friendly RCHQ representative will be on hand to assist anyone that requires clarification. Anyone who does not follow this very simple rule will be done for the night and will no longer be scored. Be ready, observant, and plan your racing program. We are not waiting on anyone, so if you’re not prepared, your race will start without you. Combo classes. The race director will make every effort to run a quick and efficient program. This will involve combining classes to fill the drivers stand and save time. Common classes that will be combined are: 2wd and 4wd 1/10 buggies – 1/8 expert and sportsman buggy, and potentially e-buggy and/or truggy – 2wd and 4wd SC. If you have registered for 2 classes that get combined, you will be required to pick one of them, and we will immediately refund your money. Novices go first. Please pitch-in and help them all you can … they are the future of our track … you had a first race once too. Race fees: 1/8 classes are $20 for 1st entry, $10 for each additional entry. 1/10 classes are $10 per entry (we no longer do $5 for additional entries). We will be broadcasting on FM. Please bring a FM radio, we will be turning down the PA as the evening progresses out of respect for our neighbors. *The Intergalactic Buggy Championship and the Summer Classic are not a part of this series.
Totals: The Final Results are In.
Jeff Kalinsoki took home 1st Place and $500. Outstanding job! Jeff is a class act and made it look easy, so look for a feature write-up on him in the next couple of days.
Hervey LeFrere grabbed 2nd Place, scored $300, and has no hair
3rd Place and $200 goes to Doc Huffman. Doc is a gentleman, scholar, scalawag, polecat, and a bit of a sidewinder all at the same time.
John Boehm did an amazing job of winning 4nd place and $100 while only running One Class per Night
5th Place was a tie between Ed Garcia and Steve Hlavka and I figured we’ll just split the $50 pot between you two if you like.
Round 8. It’s a wrap!
Round 7. We’re getting to the end of this series; only one more night time race left!
Round 6. Is in the books and everything including the totals sheet is updated. Only 2 more Night Races Left!
Round 5. Results
Round 4. Again, sorry so long to get these posted guys. Turns out I had bronchitis for the last couple of weeks, and between that and all the track work in this heat, I was running on empty. They have me all drugged up now (including steroids) so I should be able to crank-out the results for the second half of the Series in a jiffy!
Round 3. Sorry it took so long. Went on vacation and just now getting caught up
Round 2. Sorry for the delay in getting the points updated, we got busy with building a track, rain, etc. I’ll get the overall sheets posted this weekend. Here’s the Points:
Round 1 is in the books. There were a couple of small bumps in the road, but all in all it looked like almost everyone had a great time. It was nice to get out of the heat and under the lights again. Even with the late start, we were done just after 10:00pm. Should go quicker this weekend. We also, learned you really can’t combine truggies with any other class; sorry to all you e-buggy drivers that got ran over. Remember, we are mixing Revenge of the Monster 10 into this weekends race so dust off that old MT and get ready to have some fun! The points line-up for the first race are in the link below. If you see any errors or we didn’t score you properly, please let us know right away!
