We had the opportunity to test this out at PNWC ’25 in Denver and it’s Amazing! It’s one of those items that you don’t realize just how good it is until you try go back to the old ‘spongy” type wheel, or use someone else radio. The loss of feel and control is terrible and you’ll go right back to the DAS SPEED wheel.

Diameter of the steering wheel is approx. 44mm (see why below). These steering wheels are harder and thus much firmer than the ones which have foam over them. The issue with the foam on traditional steering wheels is that your fingers slip on the foam (also sometimes the foam slips around the steering wheel rim). This is why people tend to squeeze the foam wheel. Also it is easier to apply more pressure with your fingers on the foam when the steering wheel is larger in diameter, hence why the traditional steering wheels have become larger in size today. However this is a bandaid over the real issues, which is namely slippage. Also gripping your steering wheel harder prevents you from ‘feel’ and precise input. Also bigger steering wheel means more physical throw of the steering wheel for the same steering throw on the vehicle. Another issue with the foam is that there is ambiguity between your fingers and the car, caused by the ‘give’ of the foam (think about a dragster tire off the line in slow motion and its deformation – albeit an exaggerated example). The issue of bigger steering wheels and foam ambiguity, directly translate to less precision and more mechanical latency. All these issues are solved with the DAS SPEED steering wheel. Even with the lightest pressure on the steering wheel you have perfect grip, and it is crazy because you can feel the feedback of the car. Once you try it you’ll never go back..
